The Tawny frogmouth is native to Australia including our island state of Tasmania  A nocturnal bird, although common, they are not easily seen due to their amazing camouflage resembling a branch of a tree. In this watercolour While I wanted the bird to be visible, I also wanted to show its clever "disguise". Tawny frogmouths are not and owl as they catch their prey with their beaks rather than talons.  The original has been sold but it is available as giclee prints, greeting card and sublimation print on various items.
