For those who want to know a bit more about the how and why of watercolour. Many artists have a brand of paint they prefer and Zoltan Zabo wrote a book where he noted different preferred brands for varioust colours. So if you are interested in the “peculiar” behaviour of watercolours this session is a must….. plus you will go home with 4 pans of watercolours that you have made! You will make a blue (cobalt or ultramarine) a yellow, a red and white. I don’t usually use white in watercolour but my own handmade titanium white is the best watercolour white I have ever used (others have echoed this thought). Making your own paints is very cost effective especially for colours like cobalt blue and you can make them highly pigmented if you like bold colour In making the paints you will understand more about the behaviour of pigments suspended in watercolour and what binds that pigment to the paper surface. (If time allows you can make more colours of paints at the cost of extra materials supplied).
