Earrings, hand painted, ocean

Handpainted using encaustic wax medium so the painting is 3 dimensional. This pair… colours of the ocean..is off to Victoria tomorrow… sold $30. The paintings are so tiny, 12mm. The bezels are bamboo and the hooks surgical steel. Unique… no one else uses the technique I developed to paint these. Only in Tasmania… but I post worldwide.

Tasmania’s Tarkine Wilderness…. Art

2017 was the third year of a gathering of creative people (about 150 artists) in Tasmania’s Wilderness…… Takayna (the Tarkine), on the rugged West Coast. This unique area should be offered more protection by affording it National Park status, not to “close” it to visitors but to maintain its environmental and heritage values so that future generations can enjoy it as we do. Art is a language which we hope will give more insight into the inherent value of Tarkayna.

An exhibition of works is currently on display at the Long Gallery in Hobart, Tasmania showcasing artworks created. These are my entries in that exhibition , along with the promotional invitation

Commission challenges

Fishing Tasmania portrait format

While busy at this time of year restocking and going to events, I have managed to complete some of the commissioned work and have sent a couple off to their new homes. The watercolour above went to live in NSW yesterday. I have previously done a “Fly Fishing Tasmania” in a landscape format and reproduced  it on fridge magnets. The challenge for this commission was to create a similar feel in a portrait format, making sure to capture the sense of light.

Aurora inspired pendant

This encaustic pendant, inspired by the skies of Aurora Australis, will be off to USA to match the bangle bought by a lovely lady visiting Hobart on a cruise. I also need to do a silk bracelet for her to match a pendant she bought. I have done 3 paintings for it but none are quite a close enough match so I will work on that again today.

At the craft Fair I had some small matted watercolours of my “Ladies Day Out” loose style figures. These are  based on Robert Wade’s  “Bob’s Blobs” which I so loved when I attended a watercolour workshop with him years ago. I really enjoy doing these and the instructions for this were…… 3 friends dressed in red, yellow and purple. I did 3 works (all have been collected…. this was a practise), so the “three  amigos” will each have one. What a lovely idea for an original  Christmas gift for special friends.

New artworks on silk

I have been busy lately, with commissioned works. Earlier in the week I posted, to the Hilton Hotel gift shop in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, 10 of my my handpainted sets….silk scarf with matching brooch which enable the wearer many styling options. Most of the brooches were my preferred landscape impressions but on two I painted images inspired by the colourful fish of the Great Barrier Reef.

Today I also completed another scarf (no brooch) on which I have been working as a sample requested by Griffith University, again in Queensland. The scarves they are considering are to have Queensland native flowers on them and the suggestion was the Waratah on a sample item. Ready to mail tomorrow.

A third commission completed is a blue wren on silk. What a novel idea from the couple asking for this as a special silk anniversary gift.

New from the studio…. encaustic art in pendants

Between entertaining visitors and blogging 101 tasks and visiting other people’s blogs I have been in my studio creating. Here are 6 new pendants each containing an encaustic art original in miniature. The pigmented wax is so vibrant and the resultant image has real depth. My encaustic jewellery is proving to be very popular  and I LOVE doing them

An Encaustic start to 2015…. Encaustic painting in Jewellery settings

My first artworks for the transition from 2014 to 2015 are these miniature encaustic paintings presented in little “frames” that you can wear. I love doing this with my art. Although I have done murals and enjoy doing works of all sizes I have always had a special love for the little. And as our walls are full, and modern design declares minimalism is the way to go,  I am excited to be presenting my paintings as wearable art. No reproductions here. Each is a unique painting….. encaustic (pigmented wax), manipulated in its molten state, to form an interesting composition often suggestive (intentionally) of flowers from my garden….. iris, poppies, tulips….. And they are affordable (bracelets $33 includes postage in Australia, or I will pay half of postage overseas (customer pays the other half. At the rate these have sold they won’t hang around in my studio for long so let me know if you want one.red and green red tulip bangle JPG tulip pendant 30mm encaustic bangle trio abstracted sea and flower patchwork garden patchwork bangle is lead and nickel free and is adjustable from small to medium/largish. The cover is a glass cabochon attached with E600 adhesive. The image is an original impressionist style painting using artist’s quality pigmented wax. Care instructions…… clean/polish glass with a soft cloth. Do not leave the artwork directly in front of a heater which is on high or on the dashboard of a car in summer unless you want to modify the image! Normal hot temperatures are OK… if your body can stand the heat, the artwork can too.

I just love the vibrant colours, and the 3D effects with various depths of the wax layers. Tuition in encaustic art is available. Look at my TUITION page, or contact me with your request.<a href=”https://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/new/”>New</a&gt;

Silk brooch in action

I have posted images of the watercolour miniatures which I love to do on silk so here is a way to wear them other than with the silk scarves which I paint to match. Here in Tasmania it is winter, with snow around some parts today, so I have opted for a warm jacket and a shrug kept neatly in place with a silk brooch. The brooch enables a variety of styling options and the shrug never comes undone or “misbehaves” causing unwanted bulges in an outfit or slipping down allowing the winter chill to creep in …… perfect winter accessory. Snuggly.

Handpainted Silk Brooches

Today I was doing more of what I love most…. my original paintings in miniature on silk. This time I made the artworks (and some which I had painted previously) into brooches. All except one are watercolour technique. The odd one out incorporates gutta outline. Some of these were painted to match some of my silk scarves to be offered for sale as a set. The brooch, by itself, retails at $20 AUD (post free) so if you would like one, please let me know. If the one you want is sold, sorry, you miss out. That is because for watercolour technique on silk, the way I work, it is not possible to repeat the painting. Each is a unique, handpainted, original artwork. They are 60mm in diameter and treated with a UV and stain resistant finish for silk. Silk brooches June 2014

Silk pendants in Gold settings

Gold setting silk pendants rrpI have been scanning and coding my silk pendants to send to a gallery for selection of ones to purchase at wholesale price. Each is in a good quality finely made gold setting with the silk stretched over a domed metal insert. The original watercolour style paintings on silk are individually painted so each is an original artwork in miniature. I do not use anything to restrict the flow of the dyes as I love the serendipitous effect of watercolour technique. The finished paintings are fixed, then after mounting are treated with a uv and stain resistant finish.
